Paraffin wax, also known as crystalline wax, is a mixture of hydrocarbons extracted from some distillates of petroleum, shale oil or other asphalt mineral oil, and its main component is solid alkanes. Paraffin wax is amorphous, but it has obvious crystal structure.

   

There are many kinds of paraffin, such as microcrystalline paraffin, liquid paraffin, semi-refined paraffin and chlorinated paraffin. Among them, fully refined paraffin and semi-refined paraffin are widely used, which are mainly used as food, wax paper, crayons and so on.

Paraffin wax is mainly used to make matches, fiberboard, canvas and so on. After adding polyolefin additives into paraffin wax, it can also be widely used in candle production. After the paper is immersed in paraffin wax, various kinds of wax paper with good waterproof performance can be made. Fully refined paraffin and semi-refined paraffin are more widely used, mainly used as packaging materials for food, oral drugs and some commodities
